Shane Watson was born on 17 June 1981 in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. At the age of 21, he made his international debut on 24 March 2002, playing an ODI against South Africa at Centurion.
In his ODI career, he scored 5757 runs in 190 matches at an average of 40.54 and took 168 wickets.
Watson played the first Test match of his career on 2 January 2005 against Pakistan in Sydney.
Watson holds many records in T20I, ODI and T20. According to Forbes, Watson was the highest paid non-Indian cricketer in the world for five consecutive years between 2011 and 2015.
On 2 November 2020, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
