1. 61st National Open Athletics Championships 2022 starts at Bengaluru

The 61st Senior National Open Athletics Championships 2022 was inaugurated by the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai at the Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru on 15 October 2022. The Senior National Open Athletics Championships 2022 is being organised by the Athletics Federation of India.
The five day championships which will be held from 15-19 October 2202 will see participation of over 800 participants from across the country competing in 47 medal events.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister said that the Karnataka government said that as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav the state government will train 75 athletes for the next summer Olympics to be held in Paris France in 2024.
Athletics Federation of India
It is the apex sports body for athletics in India. It conducts various athletics championships in the country and is a member of the World Athletics and Asian Athletics.
It was set up in 1943.

2. India wins the Women’s cricket Asia Cup for the seventh time beating Sri Lanka

The Indian women’s cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur crushed Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final of the 8th Women’s Asia Cup 2022 and won it for the 7th time. The final was played at the Sylhet International cricket stadium, Sylhet in Bangladesh on 15 October 2022.
Bangladesh was the host of the 8th women’s Asia Cup cricket 2022, held from 1 October to 15 October 2022.
Bangladesh is the only other country apart from India which has won the Asia cup in 2018.
Seven teams, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh and United Arab Emirates participated in the 8th women’s Asia Cup which was played in the T 20 format.
Thailand's team created history when they defeated Pakistan to reach the semi-final of the tournament.

Women Cricket Asia cup
The first Asia Women’s cup was held in 2004 in Sri Lanka which was won by India.
The 2004, 2005-06, 2006 and 2008 editions were held in 50 over format.
2012, 2016, 2018, 2022 were held in T 20 format.
India has won it 7 times and Bangladesh once in 2018.

It was set up in 1983 at New Delhi as Asian Cricket Conference to promote cricket in Asia. In 1993 the Asian Cricket Conference became the Asian Cricket Council.

3. Service Sports Control Board tops the medal tally at the 36th National Games 2022
The Service Sports Control Board (SSCB) has topped the medal tally at the recently concluded 36th National Games 2022 with 128 medals, including 61 golds, 35 silvers and 32 bronze. This is the fourth consecutive time that the SSCB has topped the medal tally in the National Games. It topped the medal tally in 2007, 2011 and 2015 and 2022 games.
Service Sports Control Board (SSCB) is a combined team of the Indian Army, Navy and Air force.
The National Games 2022 were held in six cities; Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar, of Gujarat from September 29 to October 12. It was last held in Kerala in 2015.
The next 37th National Games will be held in Goa in 2023.
Best Athlete of the National Game 2022
Best male athlete:
29 year old swimmer, Sajan Prakash of Kerala. He won five golds, two silvers and one bronze medal.
Best female athlete:
14 year old swimmer, Hashika Ramachandra of Karnataka. She won six golds and one bronze medal in the game.
Best State Trophy
Maharashtra was awarded the Indian Olympic Association’s Best State trophy for winning the most medals (140) in the Games.
However Maharashtra finished second to SSCB in the medal tally as SSCB had won more gold medals(61) as compared to Maharashtra (30) gold medals.

8. Anurag Thakur inaugurates Water Sports Centre in Himachal Pradesh

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur has inaugurated a Water Sports Centre in Koldam Barmana, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh on 9 October.

The water sports centre, a first of its kind in Himachal Pradesh, has been jointly started by Sports Authority of India (SAI) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also exchanged between SAI and NTPC during the event.
It has been jointly initiated by Sports Authority of India (SAI) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
The centre will be dedicated to training athletes in water sports such as rowing, canoeing and kayaking.
The centre will select 40 players who will take part in rowing, kayaking and canoeing. The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and will also provide hostel and training facilities to boys and girls.

10. Harmanpreet, Rizwan win ICC Player of the Month awards for September

India women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan won the ICC Player of the Month awards for September-2022 in the women's and men's categories.
Important facts
Harmanpreet Kaur became India's first ever winner of the ICC Women's Player of the Month due to her leading role in her team's first ODI series win in England since 1999.
She performed brilliantly during the ODI series, scoring 221 runs in three matches, maintaining a strike rate of 103.47 and getting dismissed only once.
The women cricketers selected for the Women's Cricket Award included Bangladesh's Nigar Sultana and India's captains Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana.
The ICC Men's Player of the Month nominees included Australia's Cameron Green and India's Axar Patel, but Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan managed to bag the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for the first time.
Rizwan was in terrific form in September, putting up some stellar performances in T20Is.
