17th National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Raising Day

Every year National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) celebrates its Raising Day on January 19, since it came into existence on January 19, 2006. The NDRF is the world's single largest force dedicated to dealing with a disaster situation or disaster.

- This special force under the Union Home Affairs Ministry was set up under the Disaster Management Act 2005.
- There are 12 NDRF battalions located in different parts of the country and comprise as many as 13,000 NDRF personnel who are working to build a safer country.
- Shri Atul Karwal, IPS, is the Director-General of NDRF.
- Motto “Apda Seva Sadaiv Sarvatra” which implies “Sustained Disaster Response Service” under all circumstances.
