- He was primarily recognized for his comedic roles in Malayalam cinema, but also acted in Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and English films, appearing in over 700 films throughout his career.
- He has won several awards, including the Kerala State Film Award and the Kerala Film Critics Award, and is regarded as one of the finest comedians in Malayalam cinema.
- Innocent began his political career in 1979 as a Municipal Councilor of Irinjalakuda Municipality and later served as a Member of Parliament representing the Chalakudy constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha of India.
- He was the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), a guild of Malayalam artistes, from 2003 to 2018.
- Innocent wrote seven books, including Najan Innocent, Irinjalakudakku Chuttam, Mazha Kannadi, Chirrikku Pinil, and Kalante Delhi Yatra Anthikkad Vazhi. His book Irinjalakudakku Chuttam won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for humour in 2020.
