Lovlina Borgohain becomes champion in 75 kg category: India wins four gold

India's Lovlina Borgohain defeated Australia’s Caitlin Parker in the 75kg final to win the gold medal at the World Women’s Boxing Championship in New Delhi on 26 March.

  • Lovlina has been successful in winning gold in the World Championship for the first time.

  • Lovlina defeated Caitlin Parker of Australia 4-3. She had earlier won bronze medals at the World Championships in 2018 and 2019.

  • Lovlina had lost in the quarterfinals of the 66 to 70 kg (light middle weight) category at the Commonwealth Games last year. She was defeated 3–2 by Rosie Eccles of Wales.

  • Lovlina, who won a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, could not win any medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games as well.

India gets four gold in World Boxing Championship

  • India has got a total of four gold medals in the Women's World Boxing Championship.

  • Indian boxers won gold medals in the 48, 50, 75 and 81 kg categories.

  • Neetu Ghangash won the gold medal in the 45-48 kg category.

  • Sweety Boora won the gold medal in the 75-81 kg category.

  • Nikhat Zareen gave the country its third medal by winning gold in the 48-50 kg category.

  • Lovlina Borgohain won the gold medal in the 70-75 kg category to give India its fourth gold medal.

  • 66kg: Liu Yang (China) beat Janjaem Suwannapheng (Thailand) 5-0

  • 75kg: Lovlina Borgohain (India) beat Caitlin Parker (Australia) 5-2

  • +81kg: Khadija Mardi ( Morocco) beat Lazzat Kungiebayeva (Kazakhstan) 4-1.
