The government of India extends PMGKAY till March 2022
Central government has extended “Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) until March 2022.
- It is a food security programme which was launched by the Government of India in March 2020 to help and protect the poor, suffering from the disruption caused in the country due to Covid situation
- Under this scheme the government provides an additional free 5 kg wheat /Rice per person per month to the 80 crore beneficiaries of the National Food Security act including those covered under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Phases of the PMGKAY
Phase-I of the Scheme was operational from April to June, 2020
Phase-II of the scheme was operational from July to November, 2020.
Phase-III of the scheme was operational from May to June, 2021.
Phase-IV of the scheme is currently operational for July - November, 2021 months.
Phase V of the scheme will be from December 2021-March 2022.
- The Scheme is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Finance , Government of India .
