World Ozone Day or International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is celebrated on 16 September every year.

Background of the Day :
In December 1994, the United Nations General Assembly designated 16 September as the International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer.
In 1987, representatives of 24 countries held a meeting in Montreal, Canada to discuss the alarming state of ozone layer depletion.
In 1985 the governments of the world adopted the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and decided to save the ozone layer.
World Ozone Day was first observed in the year 1995.
What is the ozone layer ?
The ozone layer is a delicate shield of gas that protects the Earth from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the Sun.
It preserves human life.
The main causes of ozone depletion and depletion are manufactured chemicals, propellants, foam-blowing agents, manufactured halocarbon refrigerants and solvents.
