Woman of the year award 

Anju Bobby George for grooming talents in the country and for advocating talents in the country. She won the gold medal in Long Jump in the International Ameatuer Athletics Federation (IAAF)  World Athletics final in 2005 held at Monte Carlo.She was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2002, Khel Ratna in 2003 and Padma Shri in 2004.

She is the second woman athlete to be chosen for this award after Ethiopia’s Derartu Tulu in 2019.

Other winners 

World Athlete of the year: Male 

Karsten Warholm of Norway. 

He won the 400 meters hurdle gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and is the world record holder in the 400 meters hurdle.

World Athlete of the year  Female 

Elaine Thompson-Herah  of Jamaica. She won the 100 meters,200 meters and 4X100 meters relay in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

The award was announced by the World Athletics Organisation with its headquarters at Monaco
