Background of the day :
The World Bamboo Organisation declared 18 September as World Bamboo Day at the Eighth World Bamboo Congress held in Bangkok in 2009.
The event was attended by representatives from about 100 countries, and they all agreed to mark World Bamboo Day.
This day is also marked as Royal Thai Forestry Day.
The World Bamboo Organisation was established in the year 2005. Its headquarter is in Antwerp (Belgium).
