Indonesia (1st), India (2nd), Philippines (3rd), Brazil (4th) and Sri Lanka (5th) are the top exporters of coconut.
Background :
The coconut tree is often called the "tree of life".
It is used in various forms such as food, medicine and cosmetics.
The first World Coconut Day was celebrated on 2 September 2009 by the Asia Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) to spread awareness about the importance of coconuts and their impact on society.
Since then, UN-ESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for the Asia Pacific) has authorised the APCC to celebrate this day on 2 September every year.
