  • The theme of this year's Sign Language Day-2022 - “Sign Languages Unite us”.

  • Sign languages are efficient natural languages that are structurally different from day-to-day spoken language.

  • According to the statistics of the World Federation of the Deaf, there are more than 70 million deaf people worldwide.

Background of the day :

  • The proposal to celebrate this day was proposed by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), a federation of 135 national associations of deaf people.

  • The proposal was adopted unanimously on 19 December 2017.

  • The first 'International Sign Language Day' was organised globally in the year 2018.

  • The World Federation of the Deaf was established on 23 September 1951.
