Jeevala scheme for prisoners

The Prisons Department of the Government of Maharashtra has launched a first of its kind credit scheme called 'Jeevala' for prisoners lodged in jails across the state.
The loan scheme called 'Jivhala' has been introduced by the Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank for prisoners who are serving jail terms for more than three years.
The pilot project of this scheme was presented at Yerwada Central Jail in Pune.
This scheme will be extended to around 60 jails by the Maharashtra government.
The loan from this scheme can be used by the prisoners for the education of their children, medical treatment of family members, legal fees or other expenses.
