Tennis great Roger Federer to retire from professional Tennis

Roger Federer of Switzerland, regarded as one of the greatest male tennis players, has announced his retirement from professional tennis on 15 September 2022.

He said that the Laver cup to be held in London, England next week will be his last professional tournament.

IMPORTANT FACTS -

  • The 41 year old has won 20 Grand Slam singles titles in his career spanning over 24 years. He has won seven Wimbledon titles, five U.S. Open titles, six Australian Open titles and a single French Open in 2009.
  • He also holds the record for 237 consecutive weeks as world number one player on the Association of Tennis Professional (ATP) ranking.
