Hindi Divas is celebrated every year on 14 September. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the Hindi language has brought India a special respect at the world level and its simplicity and sensitivity have always attracted people.

IMPORTANT FACTS -

• The day is dedicated to the Hindi language after it was declared as the official language of the Union of India.

History of Hindi Diwas :

• The Constituent Assembly of India declared Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of the Union of India on 14 September 1949.

• English is the second official language.

• It was decided to celebrate this day as Hindi Diwas by the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.

• Article 351 of the Constitution of India deals with the promotion and upliftment of the Hindi language.

• Hindi language has also been included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

Government efforts to promote Hindi language :

• Establishment of Central Hindi Directorate in the year 1960

• The Indian Council for Cultural Relations has established 'Hindi Chairs' in various universities/institutions abroad.

• E-Saral Hindi Sentence Dictionary and E-Mahashabdkosh Mobile App

• Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar and Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar for those who contributed to the development of Hindi language
