Covishield Export resumed by SII

The Serum Institute of India (SII) officially announced that it has resumed exports of its COVID19 vaccine, Covishield, under COVAX, the international vaccine sharing programme.
Highlights:
- The vaccines will be distributed to low and middle-income countries via the COVAX Mechanism.
- The Government of India gave its nod to export 50 lakh Covishiled doses under the UN-backed COVAX Global Vaccine Programme to Nepal, Tajikistan and Mozambique.
- In addition to above mentioned countries, SII will also export Covishield to Bangladesh under this scheme.
COVAX Programme:
COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and WHO. Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.
