Covishield Export resumed by SII

The Serum Institute of India (SII) officially announced that it has resumed exports of its COVID­19 vaccine, Covishield, under COVAX, the international vaccine sharing programme.

Highlights:

• The vaccines will be distributed to low and middle-income countries via the COVAX Mechanism.
• The Government of India gave its nod to export 50 lakh Covishiled doses under the UN-backed COVAX Global Vaccine Programme to Nepal, Tajikistan and Mozambique.
• In addition to above mentioned countries, SII will also export Covishield to Bangladesh under this scheme.

COVAX Programme:

COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and WHO. Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.
