Padma Shri Awardee Major HPS Ahluwalia Dies At 85

Padma Shri recipient and founder of the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre Major HPS Ahluwalia passed away at the age of 85 on 14th January 2022.

  • HPS Ahluwalia was a retired army officer, a trained mountaineer, author and social worker "who has contributed immensely in various fields including adventure sports, environment, disability, and social work”
  • He is one of six Indian men and the twenty first man in the world to climb Mount Everest,on 29 May 1965.
  • His autobiography is titled “Higher Than Everest”.
  • Major Ahluwalia has also been a former president of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.
  • He was honored with the country's most prestigious awards - Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and the Arjuna Award. He also received the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.
