FICCI  new president 

Why in news?

• Emami Limited Vice Chairman and Managing Director Harsha Vardhan Agarwal has been elected as the Ficci president for 2024-25, the industry body said on Friday. 
•  He will succeed Anish Shah as President of the apex business chamber .
• Harsha Vardhan Agarwal is President-elect FICCI, will take up role on Nov 21.

About FICCI:

• Established in 1927, on the advice of Mahatma Gandhi  by Indian businessman G.D. Birla  and.Purshottam Thakurdas.
• It is the largest, one of the oldest and the apex business organizations in India. It is a non-government, not-for-profit organization. 
• FICCI draws its membership from the corporate sector, both private and public, including SMEs and MNCs.
• The chamber has an indirect membership of over 250,000 companies from various regional chambers of commerce.It is involved in sector-specific business building, business promotion and networking.
• Currently, it is headquartered in the national capital New Delhi and has a presence in 12 states in India and 8 countries around the world.

Why in news?

• Recently  83rd IRC Annual Session-Raipur (Chhattisgarh) from 8 to 11 November, 2024 
• The Indian Roads Congress (IRC) was set up by the Government of India in consultation with the State Governments in December, 1934. 
• It is the premier body of Highways Engineers in India. 

Objectives:

• The Principal objectives of the India Roads Congress are to provide a national forum for regular pooling of experience and ideas on all matters concerned with the construction and maintenance of highways, to recommend standard specifications and to provide a platform for the expression of professional opinion on matters relating to roads and road transport including those of organizations and administration.
•  It is also publishing Journals, monthly magazines and research bulletins.
• IRC is a registered society under the Registration of Society Act,1860 and is financed by contributions from the Central Government, various State Governments and also contributions from its Members and sale of Publication.

Rohini Nayyar prize 2024

Why in news?

• Anil Pradhan, a 28-year-old engineer from Odisha, was awarded the third Rohini Nayyar Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Rural Development for his work in promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education among students in rural India

Rohini Nayyar Prize:

• Instituted to honor individuals who have significantly contributed to rural development in India.
• Established by Nayyar Foundation for Social and Economic Purpose, in memory of Rohini Nayyar.
• First award was given after Rohini Nayyar’s death in 2021.
• It Includes a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs, a citation, and a trophy.
• Criteria: Granted to individuals under 40 years of age.

Who was Rohini Ayyar?

• Nayyar was an economist and IAS officer who worked in rural development with the Planning Commission of India from 1987 to 2005, advocating new ways toaddress poverty and social upliftment.

HANDING OVER TWO INTERCEPTORS TO MOZAMBIQUE 

Why in news?

• As part of its capacity-building engagements with friendly foreign nations of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), the Government of India gifted two water-jet propelled Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) to the Government of Mozambique at NACALA port, on 08 Nov 24.

Important Points:

• The FICs were transshipped from India by INS Gharial.
• The Port of Nacala is a deep-water port in Mozambique that serves as a gateway for the Nacala Corridor, a region that includes Malawi, Zambia, and Mozambique: 

Features:

• These water-jet-propelled boats have a top speed of45 knots and a range of 200 nautical miles at 12 knots.
•  They can carry a crew of five personnel and are equipped with machine guns and bullet-resistant cabins. 

Significance of FICs:

• The two FICs will significantly aid the Government of Mozambique in its effort to combat maritime terrorism and ongoing insurgency in the Cabo Delgado province. 

Role of India in maritime security of Mozambique:

• Earlier, to bolster the efforts of the Government of Mozambique for maritime security, the Government of India had gifted two large Interceptor vessels in 2019, followed by two FICs of the same class in Jan 2022.
• The Indian Navy has been seen by several nations in the IOR as the preferred partner for maritime security.

Why in news?

• To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Vadtal Temple, a special stamp was released by the Department of Posts to honor its pivotal role in the Shree Swaminarayan Sampradaya. 

Important points:

• The stamp was released at Vadtal, district Kheda, Gujarat on 09.11.2024 in presence of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Acharya Maharaj 1008 Shri Rakeshprasad Ji, Dr Shri Santvallabhswami Chief Executive Kothari of Vadtladham Mandir, Postmaster General, Vadodara, Shri Dineshkumar Sharma along with other Pujya Swamishri.
• The commemorative stamp designed by Shri Sh. Jairaj T.G. features the VadtalDham Temple  showcasing  its stunning traditional architecture, the temple is shaped like a lotus having nine golden domes. 
• The stamp symbolizes Vadtal’s rich heritage and its significant impact on the lives of countless devotees, providing a sanctuary for worship and a source of inspiration.

Vadtal Temple:

• The temple serves as the spiritual capital of the Shree Swaminarayan Sampradaya, which has spread across the world today.
•  This temple was built on the command of Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan by Sadguru Shree Brahmanand Swami and Sadguru Shree Aksharanand Swami. 
• The temple is built in a lotus shape, symbolizing the spirit of harmony among all religions. It includes depictions of past avatars of gods and goddesses.
