Why in news?

  • Sonu Sood, renowned Bollywood actor and philanthropist, has been appointed as the brand ambassador and advisor for Thailand tourism.

Significance:

  • In this role, Sood will offer guidance and strategic advice on marketing and public relations initiatives aimed at boosting Thailand's tourism presence in India.
  •  Sood's new role is set to further strengthen Thailand's image as a preferred travel destination for Indian tourists.
  • Bangkok is the state capital and largest city  of Thailand.
  • TheMaitree Exerciseis a military exercise between Thailand and India which takes place every year. .

'EV as a Service’ Programme

Why in news?

  • Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs,Shri Manohar Lal  unveiled Convergence Energy Services Limited’s (CESL) ‘EV as a Service’ program at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi.

Aim of Programme:

  • To accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across central and state government departments, CPSEs, and other institutions.

Significance:

  • The program is set to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles within the government, with a goal to deploy 5,000 electric cars over the next two years.
  •  By offering a flexible procurement model, ‘EV as a Service’ allows government offices to select electric vehicles that best meet their specific operational needs, supporting both India’s green energy goals and the target of net zero emissions by 2070. 
  • CESL’s initiatives, including the deployment of nearly 2,000 electric cars and plans for approximately 17,000 electric buses, are integral to reducing carbon emissions and advancing energy security in India.
  • The ‘EV as a Service’ program demonstrates CESL’s dedication to clean mobility and sets a remarkable example on India’s path to greener transportation.” 
  •  this program aligns with India’s larger electric mobility goals and promotes collaboration among manufacturers, policymakers, and fleet operators.
  • The event included an EV Exhibition and rally, showcasing over 100 electric vehicles across different categories, such as e-bicycles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, e-tractors, e-charging vans, and e-cargo pickups.

  • Thirty youthslearn to campaign against social evils and rights violations through doodle storytelling infused with humour.
  • The fight against child labour and child marriage,a new breed of warriors in Assam are  named as comics commandos.
  • An organization conducting an educational programme to reduce school dropout has prepared a team of 30 local youths in the Balijan block of western Assam’s Goalpara district.

International Ancient Arts Festival and Symposium 

Why in news?

  • Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, incollaboration with the ‘Rays of Wisdom Society’ and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, held the 8th  International Ancient Arts Festival and Symposium from 8th to 10th November,2024 at IGNCA.
  • This event featured an exhibition titled ‘Metaphysical, Symbolic, and Healing Themes in Visual Arts’, alongside a conference on ‘Art, Religion, and Healing’

Significance of the Conference:

  • The ‘International Ancient Arts Conference’, organized by the Rays of Wisdom Society in collaboration with the Religion, Consciousness, and Spirituality Group (nurtured by the Foundation for Creative Social Research), gathered esteemed scholars to examine the healing potential of ancient art forms. 
  • With lectures and discussions focused on ‘Religion, Consciousness and Spirituality and its Manifestation for Personal and Social Healing’.

Aim of Conference:

  • The conference aimed to reveal how timeless principles of spirituality are expressed through art. 
  • The conference included insightful discussions on topics such as ‘Art and Conflict Resolution’, ‘Healing in Baul Philosophy’, ‘Odissi and its Universal Principles’, ‘Drama Movement and Therapeutics’, and ‘The Aesthetics of Beauty’. 
  • Scholars also explored ‘Dealing with Unfulfilled Desires through Malay Traditional Psychotherapy’, ‘Devotional Music and Spirituality’, ‘Kundalini in Poetry’, ‘Spirituality in Indian Fine Arts’, and ‘The Elements of Spirituality in Manipuri Music’. 
  • The impact of religious rituals as socio-cultural art forms, the metaphysics of temple architecture, and the epistemology of children's theatre were also significant focal points.

NAVIKA SAGAR PARIKRAMA II

Why in news?

  • Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini,which is undertaking a global circumnavigation expedition christened Navika Sagar Parikrama II, arrived at its first port of call in Fremantle, Australia.

 Navika Sagar Parikrama II :

  •  Navika Sagar Parikrama II is an ambitious circumnavigation voyage that includes stops at four major ports worldwide. 
  • The historic expedition was flagged off from Goa by Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff on 02 Oct 2024.
  • The vessel covered a distance of 4900 nm from Goa, crossing the Equator on 16 Oct 2024 and the Tropic of Capricorn on 27 Oct 2024. During this 38 day non stop voyage, the Indian Navy duo of Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa A encountered a range of weather conditions from calm to severe, 

Significance:

  • The two women crew expedition continues the Navy’s legacy of INSV Tarini’s first circumnavigation, promoting gender equality, sustainability, and global maritime cooperation. 
  • The expedition also underscores India’s commitment to fostering stronger relationships with international maritime communities and serves as an ambassador of India’s rich maritime heritage.
  • INSV Tarini prepares for its next leg, this milestone underscores the strength, skill, and resilience of the Indian Navy’s women sailors and reaffirms India’s dedication to sustainable and inclusive global engagement.
