Elon Musk's SpaceX launched GSAT-20 

Why in news?

  • Elon Musk's SpaceX launchedGSAT-20 ,ISRO's latest communications satellite from Cape Canaveral in Florida on November 19,2024.

 About  GSAT-20 :

  • GSAT-N2 or GSAT-20 is a4,700 kg satellitethat exceeds the weight capacity of India's indigenous rockets.
  • The satellite has amission-life of 14 years, providing essential internet and communication services across India and even in remote regions.
  • It is operating in the Ka-band with a capacity of 48Gbps.
  • It will enhance broadband as well as in-flight connectivity throughout the Indian region.
  • According to ISRO, the satellite is equipped with 32 user beams of which 8 narrow spot beams cover the Northeast region and 24 wide spot beams for the rest of India.
  • The launch had utilisedSpace X's Falcon 9 rocket. This is a unique collaboration as this indicates the first major commercial partnership between SpaceX and ISRO. 
  • The estimated cost for this collaboration is between $60-70 million.

Why SpaceX?

  • The primary reason for ISRO choosing SpaceX to deliver the satellite is the weight of it.
  •  The GSAT-20 being 4,700 kgs could not be delivered through India's indigenous rockets. ISRO's heaviest launch vehicle, the LVM-3, is capable of launching only 4000 kg.

What is Falcon 9?

  •  Falcon 9 is the world's first orbital class reusable rocket.
  •  Reusability allows SpaceX to refly the most expensive parts of the rocket, which in turn drives down the cost of space access.

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi shared his message on the successful organising of themaiden maritime event "Sagarmanthan:The Ocean’s Dialogu", being held at the national capital.

Important points:

  • The Indian government is hosting a two-day global maritime conference – Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue – in the national capital on November 18 and 19.
  • The conference, thefirst-ever being held in India, is being co-hosted by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Observer Research Foundation.
  • PM Narendra Modi calls for Success of ‘Sagarmanthan’ to Build Consensus for Partnerships of a Prosperous Future of Humanity.
  • PM also  shares vision for a free, open and secure maritime network for marine resources as growth pillars for growth of nations.

  • Sagarmanthan encourages exchange of ideas, expert insights for broadening the vision for the future & growth.
  • Sagarmanthan further strengthen the rules-based world order & enhance peace, trust & friendship between nations.

Why in news?

  • Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah addresses the 50th All India Police Science Conference as the chief guest in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Important points:

  • In the next 10 years, India's criminal justice system will be the most modern, scientific, and speedy in the world.
  • In five areas—cybercrime, infiltration, prevention of illegal drone use, narcotics, and misuse of the dark web—law enforcement agencies must stay much ahead of the criminals.
  • Nearly 100% of the country's police stations have been computerized and connected to the CCTNS.
  • 22,000 courts have been connected to the e-court system, and under e-prison, data for over two crore prisoners is available.

About All India Police Science Congress:

  • The first All India Police Science Congress was held at Patna in 1960 in pursuance to the recommendations of the conference of the Inspector Generals of Police of States/UTs in 1958. Since then the Congress is being organized annually in rotation by different States/Union Territories.

MULTI AGENCY DISASTER RELIEF EXERCISE 'SANYUKT VIMOCHAN 2024'

Why in the news?

  • The Indian Army successfully conducted the Multilateral Annual Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise, 'Sanyukt Vimochan 2024' at Ahmedabad and Porbandar on 18-19 November 2024.
  • General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff attended this significant event which showcased India's disaster response readiness.

Important Points:

  • The inaugural event of the exercise at Ahmedabad on 18th November 2024 featured a Tabletop Exercise, focusing on the theme of 'Cyclone in Coastal Region of Gujarat'.
  •  This event highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Airforce, Indian Coast Guard, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force & other Central & State Agencies in addressing natural disasters.
  •  Casualty evacuation was demonstrated with assistance from the assets fielded during the exercise. The demonstration culminated with ‘Resuscitation and Rehabilitation’ of affected citizens.
  • In alignment with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative, an Industrial Display was also organized alongside the demonstration, providing a platform for Indian defence industries to showcase their innovations and manufacturing capabilities in disaster response technology. 
  • This event underscored India's commitment to self-reliance and technological advancement in disaster management.

Why in the news?

  • Coal India Limited (CIL) under the aegis of the Ministry of Coal, has been conferred with the esteemed Green World Environment Award in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) category along with the distinguished title of Green World Ambassador in London.

Important points:

  • This prestigious international award has been given to CIL for exemplary work in the field of CSR i.e Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojna for permanent curative treatment of more than 600 Thalassemia patients through stem cell transplant also known as Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).
  • CIL, in 2017 became the first Public Sector Undertakings to take up the CSR project for curative treatment of Thalassemia through BMT operations across the country.
  • Under this scheme, financial assistance upto to Rs.10 lakh is provided by CIL for the BMT. 
  • As of now 17 prominent hospitals across India is partnering for this Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojna.
