The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Proba-3 mission.

Why in news?

  • The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Proba-3 mission will be launched on ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on December 4.

About Proba-3 mission:

  • First in the world, Proba-3 mission will see two satellites in a formation parallel to each other for long durations.
  • Proba-3 is a dual probe technological demonstration mission by the European Space Agency devoted to high precision formation flying to achieve scientific coronagraphy .
  •  It is part of the series of PROBA satellites that are being used to validate new spacecraft technologies and concepts while also carrying scientific instruments.

Objectives of Proba-3 mission:

  • The satellite pair has been designed to study the solar corona, the outer layer of the Sun’s atmosphere. 
  • These satellite instruments  such as the one on India’s Aditya L1 mission have a coronagraph to look at the sun and an occulter to block the light from the brighter layers of the sun.

PM to launch UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025.

Why in news?

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 and launch the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025 on 25th November at around 3 PM at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

Important points:

  • ICA Global Cooperative Conference and ICA General Assembly is being organised in India for the first time in the 130 year long history of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), the premier body for the Global Cooperative movement.
  • The Global Conference, hosted by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), in collaboration with ICA and Government of India, and Indian Cooperatives AMUL and KRIBHCO will be held from 25th to 30th November.
  • Prime Minister will also launch acommemorative postal stamp, symbolizing India’s commitment to the cooperative movement. 
  • The stamp showcases a lotus, symbolising peace, strength, resilience, and growth, reflecting the cooperative values of sustainability and community development.
  • The five petals of the lotus represent the five elements of nature (Panchatatva), highlighting cooperatives' commitment to environmental, social, and economic sustainability. 
  • The design also incorporates sectors like agriculture, dairy, fisheries, consumer cooperatives, and housing, with a drone symbolising the role of modern technology in agriculture.

Theme:

  • The theme of the conference, "Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All," aligns with the Indian Government’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation). 

Significance:

  • The event will feature discussions, panel sessions, and workshops, addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by cooperatives worldwide in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas such as poverty alleviation, gender equality, and sustainable economic growth.

Lothal’s Maritime Heritage Complex 

Why in news?

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, during the 116th episode of his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat, emphasized the significance of Lothal in India’s maritime history.

About Lothal :

  • Lothal was one of the southernmost sites of the ancient Indus Valley civilization, located in the Bhal region of the Indian state of Gujarat. Construction of the city is believed to have begun around 2200.
  •  Known as the site of the world’s first dockyard, Lothal is now witnessing the construction of the National Maritime Heritage Complex, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, a grand museum dedicated to showcasing India’s 5000-year-old maritime history that began with the Harappan civilization.
  • Speaking on the initiative, PM Modi said, “Lothal is a proud symbol of India’s maritime brilliance and ancient trading capabilities.
  • The museum being developed here will become a global hub for learning and appreciating our rich seafaring heritage.
  • Set to feature an array of exhibits, interactive displays, and educational programs, NMHC is expected to become a major tourist destination, attracting visitors globally and fostering a greater appreciation for India’s maritime heritage.  

What is Man ki Baat?

  • Mann Ki Baat is a radio program hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that aims to establish a dialogue between the citizens and the government on issues of national importance.
  • The program's name translates to "Talking from the heart" or "Mind's talk".
  • The programfirst aired on October 3, 2014 on All India Radio (AIR).
  • The program is broadcast on All India Radio, DD National, and DD News.

National campaign “#AbKoiBahanaNahi”

Why in news?

  • The Union Minister, Women and Child Development, Smt. Annpurna Devi, will launch a national campaign “#AbKoiBahanaNahi” tomorrow on 25th November 2024, scheduled  at Rang Bhawan, All India Radio, New Delhi. 

Key Points:

  • The campaign, which calls on the public, government, and key stakeholders to take actionable stepsto eliminate gender-based violence, is a collaborative effort between the Ministries of Women and Child Development and Rural Development, with support from UN Women.
  • The campaign is launched along with the ‘Nayi Chetna 3.0 campaign,’ led by the Ministry of Rural Development, to ensure a wide reach on spreading the call to action on ending gender-based violence, leaving no one behind.
  • Globally, every year, from 25th November, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10th December, which is Human Rights Day, the 16 Days of Activism campaign is observed to raise awareness on ending gender-based violence.
  • This year, building on the Global Campaign of the United Nations of #NoExcuse, which draws attention to the alarming escalation of violence against women to revitalize commitments, call for accountability and action.
  •  The Government of India is launching #AbKoiBahanaNahi with the aim to highlight the message of urgency of ending violence against women and girls, and underscoring national zero-tolerance stance towards any and all forms of gender-based violence.

GOA NAVAL AREA HOSTS ANNUAL NAVY EDUCATION SOCIETY CONFERENCE – 2024.

Why in news?

  • The Annual Navy Education Society (NES) Conference 2024 took place atHeadquarters Goa Naval Area, Vasco-da-Gama, Goa, from 20 to 22 Nov24. 

Important points:

  • The events included meetings of the Executive Committee, Management Advisory Committee (MAC), and Academic Advisory Committee (AAC), 
  • where discussionsfocused on the policy framework for Naval Schools, particularly the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
  • The Executive Committee Meeting on 22 Nov 24 was chaired by Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, Controller Personnel Services and Chairperson of NES.
  • In his address, Vice Admiral McCarty commended the significant role of Naval Schools in providing quality education to children of naval personnel. 
  • He emphasized the importance of implementing the NEP and other policy guidelines effectively, ensuring a deep understanding of their principles
  • He also urged school managements to foster a learning environment that motivates students to develop life skills and excel in both academics and co-curricular activities.

What is Navy Education Society?

  • The NES is registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with its registered office at the Directorate of Naval Education.

objectives:

  • The primaryaim of NES is promotion of education, science, culture, literature and fine arts amongst the children and families of serving and retired naval personnel.
