SECL Launches Post-Retirement Benefit (PRB) Cell

Why in the news?

• South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Chhattisgarh-based subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has achieved a significant milestone by launching a dedicated Post-Retirement Benefit (PRB) Cell. 

Key benefits of the PRB Cell include:

• Single window for all services: The PRB cell will act as a single window for retirees where they can now obtain information and resolve issues.

• Streamlined Processes:All post-retirement benefit services are available under one roof, eliminating the need for retirees to coordinate with multiple departments.

•  Quick Resolutions:Dedicated personnel ensure faster response times and better service delivery.

• The PR Benefits Cell would strengthen ‘Mission Sambandh’ launched a few months ago in SECL to achieve better communication and coordination with our stakeholders and people.

14-year-old Ira Jadhav smashes 346

• Fourteen-year-old Mumbai opener Ira Jadhav became the first Indian to score a triple hundred in Under-19 cricket.

Key points:

• 14-year-old Ira Jadhav smashes 346, setsrecord for highest U-19 score by an Indian.
• She made a 346 against Meghalaya in the U19 Women’s One Day Trophy in Alur on 12th,January, 2025.
• This is also the highest score in Youth List A matches by an Indian but the world record in the segment stands in the name of Lizelle Lee of South Africa, who made 427 in 2010 in a domestic match.
• Ira, a student of the Sharadashram Vidyamandir, the alma mater of Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli and Ajit Agarkar made her runs in 157 balls with 42 fours and 16 sixes.

Devajit Saikia elected as BCCI secretary

• Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia elected as the secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was formalised during the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM).

Important points

• Devajit Saikia will replace Jay Shahand  Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will replace Ashish Shelar as the treasurer.

• With Saikia, the incumbent joint-secretary, and Bhatia, who had earlier served as a councilor, being lone candidates in their respective categories, there was no need for a ballot vote. 

• Election officer A.K. Joti formally appointed the duo as office-bearers in the SGM that lasted 10 minutes.
